Elderly Man Drugged for 96 Hours and Robbed: Two 20-Year-Olds Arrested
The young women were tracked down after using one of the cards stolen from the victimTwo young women - one 23 and the other 24 - were arrested by the police on charges of drugging and robbing a man in his eighties in Novara, who remained unconscious for 96 hours.
They had approached the old man in a street in the center and, telling him that they were hungry and without money, they had convinced him to take them to his home, where they had made him drink a beverage. The police tracked them down in Milan.
Both of Romanian origin, both have criminal records. One of them at the time of her arrest was found in possession of a bottle of a powerful tranquilizer and a cell phone purchased with the card stolen from the elderly victim.
The search by the Flying Squad and Mobile Squad agents began after the man was found unconscious on a sofa and his home ransacked: gold objects, cash and the ATM card contained in his wallet had been taken, as well as his mobile phone.
Three glasses were placed on the table, one of which contained a darker liquid than the other two. Taken to the hospital, the elderly man tested positive for benzodiazepines, an active ingredient often used in drugs with anxiolytic-sedative properties. Discharged after a few days, he said he had lost consciousness after drinking the drink.
Initial investigations revealed that the credit card stolen from the elderly man had been used to make two cash withdrawals and purchase high-end cell phones.
The investigators were able to identify the two girls, recognized by both the victim and the shopkeeper where they had used the card stolen from the man, also thanks to the images from the cameras that filmed them near the house where the "theft" took place.
Once tracked down, the two women were arrested, in execution of a precautionary custody order requested by the Novara prosecutor's office for the crimes of aggravated robbery, aggravated personal injury and improper use of credit cards, and accompanied to the penitentiary institutions of Vercelli and Milan at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
