Discovered after departure, the Moby returns to port in Genoa

The serious incident occurred this morning on board the ship that was supposed to connect Genoa with Bastia, Corsica, after arriving from Olbia.
The moorings were cast off at 9.35 but after about half an hour of navigation the technical problem was detected in the topsides – therefore above the waterline – and it was considered necessary to reverse course to return to port.

Moby has decided to make an extraordinary use of the “Moby Tommy” on the Genoa-Bastia route and vice versa: the ferry left Genoa around 1am to reach Corsica, then set off again towards Genoa at 7pm, arriving at around 11.59pm.
The Genoa-Porto Torres which was due to leave at 9pm has been postponed to 1:30am, again with Moby Tommy.
The company also issued a note on the matter: "Due to a technical problem currently being resolved," it reads, "the Moby Wonder motor vessel, which left Genoa for Bastia, had to return to the Ligurian capital and the passengers were re-protected on the Moby Tommy which regularly took the line to Bastia, trying to reduce the inconvenience to passengers to a minimum."
The accident triggered a series of inconveniences: the 9:00 pm run on the Olbia-Civitavecchia route was cancelled. About 550 passengers and 200 cars were transferred to the 11:00 pm run.
