What attracted him was the prospect of getting a dental implant in a short time and paying a much lower price than he would have paid in Italy. So Simone Del Vecchio, a 37-year-old web designer from Barletta, decided to have surgery in Tirana, following the path his mother had already followed with success two years earlier. But things didn't go well for him and the serious complications that arose have forced him to stay in hospital for eight months .

His brother, Marco, tells his story. Immediately after the operation performed on March 13, in fact, the man felt ill and suffered four cardiac arrests . First admitted to intensive care in Tirana, he was then transferred to the Policlinico in Bari and then to the Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza in San Giovanni Rotondo where he is still hospitalized. After a long stay in intensive care, due to neurological impairments suffered, he is currently in the physical medicine and rehabilitation department . He will soon undergo another complex laser operation to resolve a tracheal stenosis probably caused by the long intubation. He is alert although sedated.

The brother speaks of "an endless Odyssey" and says that on March 13, Simone went with his mother to Tirana where he underwent " the removal of twenty teeth in a single session, without carrying out any preventive tests. After the treatment - says Marco - which lasted from 2 to 6 pm, he returned to his room in the same clinic where he had undergone the operation. Simone, however, did not even manage to get to the room because, after drinking a sip of water, he felt ill, had his first cardiac arrest, which was followed by three more ".

He was then taken to the Madre Teresa hospital in Tirana where he underwent cardiac surgery with the application of a coronary stent because the tests carried out had revealed a congenital coronary stenosis. After eight days in intensive care in Tirana, the family had him transferred by air ambulance to the Policlinico in Bari where he was admitted to intensive care. Then in June another complication, this time of infectious origin, led to his transfer to the Infectious Diseases department, then in September he was transferred again to San Giovanni Rotondo. The family has announced that they have started legal action amidst a thousand difficulties because, since Albania is not part of the European Union, it is difficult to obtain the documents of the operation .
