There is no trace of botulinum on the body of Gerardina Corsano, the 46-year-old from Ariano Irpino (Avellino) who died in hospital after having a dinner in a restaurant in the town. Initially under accusation, the chilli oil used to season the pizza had run out. Now, after the analyses, the hypothesis of poisoning due to the pesticide found in the family business is emerging.
The woman and her husband, 52-year-old Angelo Meninno (also hospitalised), are said to have handled chemical substances used for the preservation of products intended for agriculture (cereals, grain legumes and oilseeds) which they market in the individual company registered in the name of Gerardina Corsano.
Yesterday morning, the funeral of the 46-year-old was celebrated in the small church of Addolorata in Difesa Grande, the rural hamlet where the couple lived.
