Since the night of May 1st, the Fatebenefratelli Sacco hospital in Milan has been under a computer attack: the sites were inaccessible, the computer system went haywire and the staff had to fill in folders and reports by hand .

Problems also with the management of the arrival of ambulances that both yesterday and today are diverted to the emergency rooms of other structures.

Some slight IT problems also occurred at the ASST Santi Carlo e Paolo but there was "no hacker attack" and the work continued "regularly".

Beyond the inconveniences, the booked outpatient activities were guaranteed, with the exception of the microbiology analysis laboratory, the diagnostic imaging service and pre-hospitalization activities.

It all started on the night between April 30 and May 1 when the first difficulties with the computer system emerged and the emergency room staff alerted the technical on-call service. Considering the night hours, it was decided to stop the services.

From what was reconstructed, the hacker attack was carried out through a ransomware virus , which blocks access to the devices it infects and requests a ransom (in English ransom precisely) to remove the limitations. For now, however, it seems that no request has been submitted and there are no elements that suggest a theft of personal data from company databases.
