On January 13, 10 years will have passed since the tragedy of the Costa Concordia, which was wrecked on the island of Giglio, causing the death of 32 people. The commander was Francesco Schettino, who is serving a 16-year prison sentence in the Roman prison of Rebibbia. Last night his daughter Rossella returned to talk about that episode and about her father to say mainly two things: that the news disclosed by some newspaper has no basis because the former commander did not make any statements and that Gregorio De Falco, at the time head of the operational section of the Port Authority of Livorno which had taken the initiative to coordinate the rescue, should now observe "a religious silence".

The girl goes back to some elements: “It is incomprehensible that in the immediacy of the accident only the phone call at 01:46 was disclosed, leaving out the broadcasting of the audio at 00:17 and 00:30. The audios, respectively, would prove both the sudden shooting down of the ship and my father's requests to move rescue to the side where people had fallen overboard due to the ship being shot down in order to patrol the area. Basically, from the shooting down of the ship as confirmed by the investigations, which took place at 00:17, in absolute darkness, the stretch of sea facing the downed side where some victims were later found was not patrolled at least until 01:00: 46, the time when my father in front of the downed ship receives a call from De Falco who, as evidenced by the contents of his requests, it would seem that he still did not understand that the ship was shot down and half-sunk on the entire right side ".

So "these two communications if disclosed with the same timing and persistence as the famous phone call at 01:46 would have immediately clarified the dynamics of the events that caused my father and all those who were on the right side to go overboard. shot down and then sunk ".

“It is clear to everyone - concludes Rossella Schettino - that my father is atoning for the sentence in religious silence, therefore I invite the victims to do the same. I remember that January 13 is not an event to be celebrated but a sad anniversary that should not leave room for self-celebrations or generate emotional waves that could be harmful for the peaceful continuation of the judicial procedures provided for by Italian and European law. At the time of the accident I was just fifteen, if there is a pain measurement scale for what happened, I believe that mine is the closest to that of those affected in the most loved affections ".
