In Collemaggio today the last farewell to Tommaso, the 4-year-old boy killed in a tragic accident in L'Aquila .

The church was filled with acquaintances, friends, relatives but also many people who came to give solidarity and comfort to their families, to all those affected. There are dozens of white balloons with the names of the companions , and there is also a large inflated heart with Tommaso written on it.

An amplification system allowed those who remained outside the church to listen to the religious service. Present the president of the Region Marco Marsilio and some authorities, including the mayor of L'Aquila Biondi. Schoolmates from the Mazzini district are also out.

"As Father, Shepherd of this Aquila Community which, due to various calamities, has become an 'expert' in suffering - the first words of Cardinal of L'Aquila Giuseppe Petrocchi - I can only cry together with the family of little Tommaso and the whole city, preserving the hope that unites all believers, of being able to meet again in the embrace of the Father of Mercy and Consolation who is never foreign to our earthly affairs but participates in them with a love so great that it infinitely and always surpasses ours ".

"L'Aquila cries not with dark and desperate tears but with universal pain - one of the passages in the homily of Cardinal Petrocchi -. The community knows how to pity the pain of mum Alessia and dad Patrizio . The city is all here. And just you, little Tommaso, you are also the center of the strong and kind sentiments of the entire Abruzzo community ".

The little boy was playing with his teammates when he was hit by a car without brakes . The car belonged to a 38-year-old woman, mother of two twins enrolled in the same kindergarten. On board was the woman's other son , a 12-year-old boy, who may have inadvertently pulled out of gear . The handbrake, perhaps, had not been engaged .

Five other children were injured: they would not be in danger of life.
