The 29-year-old Moroccan man arrested by the Carabinieri on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide due to drunken driving had a blood alcohol level approximately three times the legal limit . The crash claimed the life of Francesco Piras, 37, from Centro Valle Intelvi (Como), who was traveling in one of the cars involved in the tragic accident that occurred shortly after midnight in Brienno, along the Strada Provinciale Regina. After the impact, the car crashed through the protective wall bordering the road and plunged into the water .
According to initial reports, the 29-year-old caused the accident and then fled on foot immediately after the crash, before emergency services arrived. Three vehicles were involved in the accident, resulting in three injuries, including a 35-year-old woman who was in the victim's car.
The man was located not far from the accident site, in Argegno, and subjected to tests that revealed a blood alcohol level of 1.78 grams per liter of blood, more than three times the legal limit. He was subsequently arrested on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide. He is currently under guard at the Sant'Anna Hospital in Como .
