Widespread vaccinations against bovine dermatitis are also underway in Valle d'Aosta . The Region plans to vaccinate the entire regional cattle population within two months, as well as the Piedmontese animals living in mountain pastures. We're talking about a total of 38,000 head .
No outbreaks have been recorded in the Aosta Valley, but the spread of the disease in neighboring France is worrying .
For this reason, yesterday, at a meeting attended by the relevant bodies of the Region and the Local Health Authority, as well as the National Association of Valdostan Cattle Breeders (Anaborava), the Order of Veterinarians, and the Aosta Valley Forestry Corps, it was decided to implement this measure.
The Local Health Authority will deploy 15 vaccination teams to work locally, while Anaborava will provide 12 veterinarians. The priority of interventions in the various municipalities will be based on epidemiological and logistical criteria. Priority will be given to farms, mountain pastures, and livestock located in areas bordering France .
"The essential objective," explain Councilors Carlo Marzi (Health) and Marco Carrel (Agriculture) , "is to protect our precious cattle herd. Although fragile due to the small numbers it produces, it is valuable for the genetic quality it has achieved and the work of the entire sector that has created this uniqueness."
