A tragedy was narrowly avoided yesterday afternoon in Verbania, Piedmont , where the police arrested a man of around sixty years of age on charges of grievous bodily harm .
The victim, also in her sixties , was in her hairdressing shop when the man showed up, pushed her into a closet and beat her violently . He had a small bottle of acid in his hand, luckily the woman's screams attracted the customers of the nearby bar who immediately came to her aid and stopped the sixty-year-old before he could pour the bottle of acid on her .
The woman got off with a prognosis of about ten days. She had had a relationship with the attacker that ended a few weeks ago . No other episodes of violence emerged from the testimonies, he had no police record.
