The Chamber's Authorizations Committee has rejected the request for authorization to proceed against the Ministers of Justice and the Interior, Carlo Nordio and Matteo Piantedosi, and the Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council, Alfredo Mantovano, in the context of the Almasri affair.

The parliamentary body rejected Federico Gianassi's (PD) report, which provided for authorization to proceed, in three separate votes (all resulting in 13 no votes and 6 yes votes).

The vote in the Chamber is scheduled for October 9.

"The vote went as we expected; the entire majority was present. We clearly contested the content of the report, which we completely disagreed with, as both Ministers Nordio and Piantedosi, as well as Undersecretary Mantovano, acted absolutely in the best interests of the State ." Thus, MP Dario Iaia, leader of the FdI group in the Committee for Authorizations to Proceed: "Their action was inspired by the protection of national security, the interests and protection of Italians in Libya, both citizens and businesses, and the Italian Embassy," he added.

The Libyan general, accused of crimes against humanity, was first arrested and then released and repatriated by Italian authorities. In the case, ministers Carlo Nordio, Matteo Piantedosi, and Undersecretary Alfredo Mantovano "did not pursue either a constitutionally relevant interest or a preeminent public interest" but "made a choice of pure political opportunism." This was written by rapporteur Federico Gianassi of the Democratic Party in his document urging the Government to approve the request for trial filed by the Court of Ministers against the government officials, who were accused, depending on their positions, of neglect of office, aiding and abetting, and embezzlement.

According to the rapporteur, the "conduct" of the suspects "has resulted in a serious violation of Italy's international obligations and has compromised the international community's best interests in seeing those responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity prosecuted." The document concluded that the government's top brass had "undermined Italy's international credibility and the internal transparency of the relationship of trust between the Government and Parliament."
