Three young soldiers of the Alpine Rescue of the Guardia di Finanza (Sagf) died in an accident which occurred in Valtellina , in the municipal area of Val Masino (Sondrio).

All were originally from the Province of Sondrio, these are the names of the victims: Luca Piani, 32 years old, Alessandro Pozzi, 25, and Simone Giacomelli, 22 . The first two residents in Valfurva, the third in Bormio. Pozzi and Giacomelli worked in the Madesimo Sagf station, Piani in the Sondrio station.

According to initial information, the three were carrying out an exercise when they fell from the rocky outcrop called Asteroid Precipice . One of the two military teams ended up going down because suddenly the rock gave way under the feet of Colonel Giuseppe Cavallaro's boys who were engaged in training to improve their preparation in view of the interventions they carry out every year in the mountains of Valtellina and Valchiavenna.

The alarm went off just before 1pm, in addition to the rescuers, the police and the magistrate on duty from the Sondrio Prosecutor's Office intervened on site.

The lifeless bodies of the three soldiers were recovered in the afternoon . The Sondrio Prosecutor's Office, directed by Piero Basilone, will decide in the next few hours whether it is necessary to arrange an autopsy, or whether a simple cadaveric examination at the morgue of the Sondrio hospital where the bodies were transported is sufficient.

The families of the boys received the condolences of the Guardia di Finanza, the Lombardy Region, the Government and all politicians. A minute's silence was observed during the proceedings in the Senate chamber.
