They returned home as if nothing had happened, after leaving their two young children with their grandparents for four days. And to the carabinieri who came to look for them at home to check on their conditions, they responded serenely: "We left for a short trip and now we are tired". Maria Zaccaria and Pietro Montanino, the couple living in Cesa (Caserta) who got married a week ago, Friday 25 October, and then disappeared into thin air four days later, Tuesday 29 October, reappeared this morning in Frattamaggiore (Naples) at their paternal grandparents' house, exactly where the couple had left their seven-month-old and seven-year-old children four days ago, and then walked away in search, it seems, of a house to move to.
Maybe a quick honeymoon, or something more serious, in any case Maria and Pietro will have to account for their actions: it is unlikely that they will receive a complaint for abandonment of a minor, even if the Prosecutor's Office of Naples North is carrying out evaluations. And in the meantime the mayor of Cesa Enzo Guida has activated the social services of the Municipality to verify whether there are responsibilities on the part of the couple in the custody of the young children.
This morning Maria and Pietro reappeared at the parents' house, took their newborn son and drove back home to Cesa; here they were joined by their eldest son, who in the meantime had gone to his father's house (he was born from Maria's previous marriage). At that point the Carabinieri of the local station (part of the Aversa Company) went to the couple's house, having been notified of Maria and Pietro's reappearance. And the couple limited themselves to telling the soldiers about the trip they had made.
In the afternoon, Maria and Pietro went to the Frattamaggiore Carabinieri to give explanations, since their disappearance had been reported, setting the search machine in motion.
The evidence collected tells that the couple, after leaving the children with their paternal grandparents, walked away, probably to reach the Naples train station; here Maria and Pietro boarded a train for a destination that has not yet been disclosed by the Prosecutor's Office and the Carabinieri. It also seems that the couple made themselves heard for the last time on Tuesday afternoon around 5 pm, when Maria called her sister-in-law (Pietro's sister) with her husband's cell phone to remind her to go and pick up her seven-year-old son from soccer, even if the sister-in-law later denied having been contacted.
From initial investigations it does not appear that the two - he is a security guard, she works for a cleaning company - have financial problems or have received threats or have put themselves in a bad situation, even if only the couple can know the real reasons for the separation. The disappearance of Pietro and Maria has nevertheless caused great concern among the Caserta and Naples areas.
The mayors of Cesa, Enzo Guida, and of Frattamaggiore Antonio Del Prete, had launched an appeal to track down the couple, and the parish priest of Parco Verde in Caivano, Don Maurizio Patriciello, had also expressed concern for the two newlyweds.
