Cagliari's Alessandro Romano is the only debutant in Roberto Mancini's first eleven after his return to the national team. The Rossoblu midfielder will start at 8:45 PM in Italy vs. Belgium, at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, on the first matchday of Group 1 of League A of the Nations League. The now "former" Swiss player, following the controversial change of nationality in recent weeks , will form the midfield alongside Cagliari's Nicolò Barella and Sandro Tonali. The surprise addition to the lineup is Nicolò Cambiaghi, in the attacking trident.

Cagliari's other player, Daniel Maldini, starts on the bench: if he were to come on, he would become the twenty-fourth Rossoblu player to wear the blue jersey (Romano is the twenty-third).
