After the farewell to the single rate and the maximum ceiling for tourist tickets , yet another wave of price increases for the holiday industry. In August, a family of four can spend up to 1,500 euros for the ferry crossing and even over 2,000 euros for a plane trip .

Prices out of control , already experienced by thousands of passengers - among them many Sardinian emigrants - during the Easter holidays but the script will repeat itself in the summer.

Volotea fares for territorial continuity routes (between the island's airports and those of Fiumicino and Linate) in some cases exceed 500 euros per person . Those of Ita , which will debut in Sardinia on 15 May , are more contained for now but are destined to increase.

A year ago, in this period, prices were more affordable: in the main routes between the Peninsula and Sardinia a return ticket cost from 120 up to 320 euros. And even in the heart of summer, Alitalia's price list - at that time it was the only company to manage continuity - did not go beyond 356 euros. Now all limits have dropped and the maximum rate increase exceeds 50% .

"The global increase in the cost of fuel and raw materials resulting from the evolution of the international situation has had repercussions on the company's fares - said Volotea - moreover, net of these increases, it should not be forgotten that the cost of airline tickets it is closely related to seasonality and demand: in the free market, the more people travel, the more fares tend to rise ”.

THE COUNCILOR CHESSA - The Regional Tourism Councilor Gianni Chessa knows the problem, does not avoid it, but raises: “We must take a step forward. Let's face it that Sardinia is expensive, that in people's choices it is not only transport that affects and that if we want to do tourism all year round we must stop plucking the tourist ".

"Let's start with a datum - is the analysis - there are 171 destinations to and from the island and many are international. This means that the airlines have estimated that they can fill 8 million seats and therefore people in Sardinia come and If instead we talk about ships for a family of four with cars, the fare becomes heavy. Compared to many other tourist destinations we start at a disadvantage and the 'expensive transport' is our Achilles heel. But in the end this land is always attractive and tourists, perhaps angrily, spend to come to us because the destination is coveted, but then they will have less euros for something else ", says Chessa.
