Cagliari dreamed of a great comeback, but in the end had to settle for a draw against Pisa: Folorunsho and Kılıçsoy, with their first goals in Serie A, overturned the lead of former player Tramoni, but in the 89th minute Moreo made it 2-2.
The Rossoblù lined up in a 4-3-2-1 formation, with Gaetano, not Folorunsho, supporting Esposito behind Kılıçsoy . As soon as the match began, Pisa immediately won a free kick on the left; the former Tramoni player cut in, finding Caprile's parry and the rebound falling to Obert, who almost sent the ball out for a corner. Palestra responded in the 7th minute: a great move to beat an opponent in the box, a left-footed shot blocked, and Šemper saved with a high catch. Gaetano, however, came close to making it 1-0, dribbling into the box and curling a right-footed shot just wide of Šemper's left post .
After Angori's cross goes undetected (16'), Pisa has a huge opportunity to take the lead. In the 17th minute, a pass to the right finds Cagliari's defense poorly positioned, and Piccinini races forward. His low cross leaves the former Tramoni player completely alone in the box, but his kick is poorly, and Caprile saves with his foot . It's a moment of great difficulty for Cagliari, who make numerous mistakes. They also risk it in the 23rd minute, with a corner thrown in by Touré and an acrobatic deflection by Canestrelli, who narrowly misses with Caprile at a standstill.
Pisa took advantage of Cagliari's sloppiness throughout the central part of the first half. In the 33rd minute, a maneuvered move was created with Piccinini freed on the right in the area for a high shot. The rossoblù tried again with a cross from Adopo, again cleared by Piccinini, while a minute later (38') Esposito failed to find Gaetano in the area with a through ball .
After a difficult first half, Kılıçsoy received the ball in the 42nd minute following a nice exchange between Adopo and Gaetano. He skipped past an opponent on the edge of the box, and his right-footed shot went just wide. Cagliari made a good play, and the striker performed well, a surprise for the team. But on the following play, Canestrelli tried to run into the box, and the rebound hit Adopo's arm: the referee pointed to the spot. Former player Tramoni took the penalty, scoring in the 45th minute with a central strike . And so the first half ended, after a minute of injury time.
The second half resumed with Idrissi immediately replacing Obert . In the 49th minute, a four-on-two counterattack arose, but Esposito wasted the opportunity with a high shot. Mina threatened in the 54th minute when, having been beaten by Tramoni, he slid in and tackled him just outside the area on the left side: a free kick and a yellow card. Before the shot, which was then blocked by Rodríguez, Pisacane called Adopo (also booked) for Zappa.
It was Zappa himself, on his first play, who created the equalizer: a cross from the right to the far post, perfect run by Folorunsho, and a diving header to make it 1-1 in the 59th minute . For the number 90, who also hit the post and had to be treated, it was the first (much-sought) goal of the season. He never recovered from the unfortunate blow and was forced to leave the field, replaced by Mazzitelli in the 63rd minute.
Mazzitelli himself earned a yellow card in the 67th minute, after Angori held him up for a long time. From a free kick, Esposito played it to Gaetano, whose right-footed shot from the edge of the box was parried by Canestrelli. Cagliari was a different story, and in the 71st minute they took the lead: Gaetano found Kılıçsoy, who dribbled brilliantly past Caracciolo on the edge of the box and fired a stunning, almost unstoppable right-footed shot into the top corner . His first Serie A goal, too.
Another counterattack down the right by Mazzitelli (74') saw the midfielder shoot with his right foot after a run with the ball, but Šemper sent it out for a corner. Gilardino then made his first substitutions, all in the 74th minute: Vural, former Calabresi player, and Moreo replaced Højholt, Bonfanti, and Piccinini. Pisa responded in the 77th minute with a powerful right-footed shot from Touré, which Caprile then got his hands on .
Pisacane completed the substitutions with Borrelli (recovered) replacing the much-lauded Kılıçsoy, and Cavuoti for Gaetano, for the final eight minutes plus injury time. Gilardino instead brought on Lorran and Léris for Touré and Tramoni. The two new Nerazzurri substitutes orchestrated an excellent goal-scoring move in the 85th minute: Léris's first shot was blocked, but Lorran picked it up, skipping past an opponent and unleashing a right-footed shot that went just wide of the post .
A free kick from the edge of the box won by Cavuoti saw Deiola's shot blocked by the wall, and Esposito earned a corner on the rebound, but it was no use. Pisa counterattacked and played down the right. Léris crossed low, and Moreo shrugged off Mina and Rodríguez to curl a low shot into the net to make it 2-2 in the 89th minute . In the six minutes of added time, Léris ran into the box in the 93rd minute and the ball went out.
