Arrested the alleged serial killer of Gilgo Beach , the Long Island beach where eleven bodies were found between 2010 and 2011: nine young women, a man and a girl. For those who investigate, the person responsible for three (or four) of the eleven murders is the architect Rex Heuermann, 59 years old. However, it is less probable that the man is also involved in the other crimes.

In March 2022, after years of investigation, the investigators focused on Heuermann. Married and with two children, in recent months he had been following the developments of the investigation on the internet, even from his studio in Manhattan. He was finally nailed by DNA evidence, after a witness recognized his pickup truck.

Arrested Thursday evening in Massapequa, a bay town where he spent practically his entire life, right in front of the beach on which the remains of the victims were found, he was indicted in the deaths of Melissa Barthelemy, Amber Lynn Costello and Megan Waterman , twenty-year-old escorts whose bodies were found on Gilgo Beach a few hundred meters from each other, tied up and wrapped in hunting bags.

Not far away was also the body of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, a 25-year-old who disappeared in 2007: Heuermann has not yet been charged in this case but is considered the main suspect. In his house, the agents found licenses for 92 guns, child pornography images and a history of sadistic searches on the web.

Meanwhile, the man continues to plead not guilty : "It wasn't me," he said in court, bursting into tears.

The case became a 2020 Netflix film, “Lost Girl”.
