The WHO Technical Committee "recommended the end of the Covid-19 state of emergency and I accepted the indication". WHO director general Tedros Ghebreyesus said at a press conference.

After just over three years, therefore, the international pandemic emergency declared after 30 January 2020 ends.

THE FINANCIAL STATEMENT – «At the beginning of the pandemic, there were about 100 cases of Covid-19 outside China and there were no declared deaths. In the three years since that moment the world has turned upside down: about 7 million deaths have been reported by the WHO, but we know that the estimate is many times greater, equal to at least 20 million victims,” explained Ghebreyesus.

SARDINIAN DATA - In Sardinia the victims claimed by the Sars-Cov-2 epidemic were almost 3,000 (2,947 to be precise), compared to over half a million cases (513,631). About a third of the population of the island, therefore, has been infected.

THE LATEST BULLETIN – In the latest bulletin released by the Region there are 56 further confirmed cases of positivity, but no new victims. There are 6 patients currently hospitalized in intensive care in the island's hospitals (+1), those in the medical area are 111 (+4). On the other hand, there are 3810 cases of home isolation (-11).

IN ITALY – At the national level, the total cases registered in Italy were 28.5 million, while the total victims were almost 190 thousand.

VARIANT ALERT – “It is with great hope that I now declare the end of Covid-19 as a global health emergency, but still this does not mean that Covid is over in terms of threat to global health,” added the WHO director-general Tedros Ghebreyesus.

«The risk of new emerging variants that can cause new waves of cases and deaths remains. The worst thing countries can do now - he warned - is use this news to let their guard down, to dismantle the system they have built and to send people the message that Covid is no longer something to worry about.
