"Thanks to European solidarity and the ability to effectively manage the pandemic, the Italian economy is growing faster than at any other time since the beginning of this century."
Our country was praised by the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, during her speech on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Catholic University of Milan which inaugurates the 2021-2022 academic year.
"The Italian GDP will return to pre-crisis levels by the middle of next year. Orders are growing and companies are looking for staff. In recent years there have never been so many job offers. And yet too many young people. they still remain unemployed. In these months of economic recovery, youth employment is growing more slowly than that of other age groups. Time to change things. I want an economy that works for young people like you. An economy that matches your expectations. A European Union for the next generation, "he added.
Von der Leyen then talked about how Brussels is dealing with the pandemic from Covid-19 on the epidemiological and economic level: "In the last two years, Europe has taken a new step forward, developing its own response to the pandemic. Once in our history we have joined forces to produce and purchase vaccines for all Europeans. It is thanks to this choice that today we have all the doses necessary to face the fourth wave of the pandemic. And for the first time in history we have created a plan of recovery to help each Member State recover from the crisis and reshape its economy. We have called it NextGenerationEU. With these two decisions we have already entered a new phase in the history of the Union ".
According to the president of the European Commission, the main objectives of the EU in the coming years will concern the fight against climate change, the transition to a more sustainable economy with the Green New Deal and the relaunch of democracy in the era of globalization.
