Victory for the #MeToo movement.

United States President Joe Biden has signed and enacted the provision that changes the way companies resolve allegations of harassment in the workplace: in practice, forced arbitration is ended, allowing victims to sue in court against the authors.

"It's a beautiful day for justice," Biden said at the White House ceremony in the presence of members of Congress, Vice President Kamala Harris and former Fox News host Gretchen Carlson.

"Between half and three quarters of all women report having experienced some form of sexual harassment in the workplace," she continued. "And too often they are denied a voice and a fair chance to do something about it. a clear and strong message: we are with you for safety, dignity and justice ”.

"Forced arbitration silences victims of sexual assault and harassment - commented Harris -. It protects predators instead of holding them accountable and offers companies a powerful tool to hide abuse and misconduct."

Started as a simple hashtag used for the first time in 2017 by actress Alyssa Milano, #MeToo has become a feminist movement fighting against the phenomenon of sexual violence and harassment, especially in the workplace. He therefore helped to give impetus to the bill by giving a voice to the victims who had not been able to sue their attackers for the clauses contained in their contract.
