The US Supreme Court has granted partial presidential immunity to Donald Trump in the trial for the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
A concession which, however, only concerns official acts, i.e. actions taken within its constitutional powers. In this case the immunity is absolute.
The tycoon, who is also accused of the Mar-a-Lago secret papers and the attempt to overturn the vote in Georgia, rejoices: «A great victory for our constitution and democracy. Proud to be an American!”, he commented on his social media site Truth after the sentence.
For its part, Joe Biden's campaign does not hide its disappointment with the Supreme Court ruling: «Today's ruling does not change what happened on January 6: Donald Trump encouraged a crowd to overturn the results of a free election and fair", we read in a note.
Again, writes the outgoing president's entourage, «Trump is running for president despite being a convicted felon for the same reason he sat and watched while the mob violently attacked Capitol Hill: he thinks he is above the law and is willing to do anything to obtain and maintain power."
