Former US president Jimmy Carter, 98, has begun receiving palliative care at home, to be close to his family in the last hours of his life. This was reported by his foundation according to what was reported by the American media.

The charity created by the former US president said that, after a series of brief hospital stays, Carter "decided to spend the remaining time at home with his family and to receive hospice care instead of further interventions doctors".

Carter, a Democrat, was elected in 1976 after defeating Gerald Ford, only to be defeated by Ronald Reagan in 1980.
