Now it's official, it will be Joe Biden against Donald Trump again . The outgoing president and his predecessor will compete on November 5 in the 60th US presidential election .

Both secured the nomination by winning, with the mini Super Tuesday , the quorum of delegates needed to run for the White House. Both are therefore "presumptive nominees", i.e. candidates in pectore awaiting official consecration at the parties' summer conventions.

Trump won with over 80% in Georgia, where however his former rival Nikki Haley, despite having withdrawn from the race, collected 15.4%, with over 60 thousand votes. An alarm signal, according to some analysts, because there remains an anti-Trump hard core among Republicans, which could be decisive in swing states like Georgia. The tycoon also won in Mississippi and Washington State, exceeding the threshold of 1,215 delegates needed to become the Republican candidate.

Also in Georgia, Biden won the Democratic primaries in Georgia and thus reached the mathematical quorum for the nomination for the White House, equal to 1,968 delegates.

Trump will be officially nominated in the Grand Old Party convention which will take place from 15 to 18 July in Milwaukee, Biden during the Democratic convention which will be held in Chicago in August .

THE STATEMENTS

Biden said he was "honored" that voters had already secured his nomination for re-election " at a time when the threat posed by Trump is greater than ever ."

Trump also rejoices: "Our party is united and strong and understands that we are running against the worst, most incompetent, corrupt and destructive president in the history of the United States ."
