Democrats are privately discussing the possibility of replacing Joe Biden on the presidential ticket after his disappointing debate performance with Donald Trump. This was reported by the American media, according to which the pressure on Biden to step aside is increasing among the Democratic ranks.

The outgoing president's entourage, however, after the face-to-face meeting, reiterated, through Biden Seth Schuster, campaign spokesperson, that Biden " will not abandon the race for the 2024 elections". But doubts remain.

"I'm very worried," admits a Democratic member of Congress speaking to the Wall Street Journal, hoping that "it's not too late to replace him."

«Parties exist to win and the man on stage with Trump cannot win. This fear will increase calls for him to step aside,'" another Democrat said in an interview with the New York Times.

As on other occasions, the president in office, who is 81 years old, appeared in difficulty, lacking clarity and almost tired.

There are many names circulating for a possible replacement. There is of course Kamala Harris , Biden's current deputy in the White House. And then four governors are given as possible candidates: Gavin Newsom (California), JB Pritzker (Illinois), Andy Beshear (Kentucky) and Gretchen Whitmer (Michigan).

Finally, many would see former first lady Michelle Obama as the perfect candidate, but the wife of former president Barack Obama has already ruled out her possible participation in the presidential elections several times.

However, time is running out for Biden's possible step back: the presidential candidacy will in fact be definitively made official with the Democratic Party convention scheduled to take place in Chicago after August 15th . If Biden were to give up the race, the delegates of the various states would no longer be "forced" to give him their support for a second term by virtue of the victories he has already achieved during the primaries in the individual states, but they would be "uncommitted", i.e. free to choose who they want .
