The pressure from the US Democrats continues on Joe Biden, now considered by many to be unfit to continue the electoral campaign for the White House.
The outgoing president continues to reiterate his intention of not wanting to give up, but the party leaders are already thinking about the plan for his replacement.
Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has hypothesized an "open process" to choose who will replace the 83-year-old leader, who has appeared less than lucid in recent months and has also been hit by Covid in recent days.
In case the president took a step back - Politico reports - Pelosi and a group of Democrats, last July 10, hypothesized arriving at the August convention without the name of an official alternative candidate (the "natural" choice would be Kamala Harris, current deputy of Biden), thus leaving the delegates free hand to choose the name.
According to Pelosi, this would be the best path because in this way the party would avoid the criticism linked to a rapid coronation of Harris, which would risk discouraging voters.
As for the names of possible candidates, that of the governor of California Gavin Newsom loses weight, while those of the governors of states considered key by the Democrats gain, namely Josh Shapiro (Pennsylvania), Wes Moore (Maryland) and Gretchen Whitmer (Michigan).
