U.S. negotiators pushing Kiev over Ukraine's critical minerals deal have raised the possibility of cutting off the country's access to Elon Musk's Starlink satellite internet system, three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.
Ukraine's access to Starlink was raised in discussions between U.S. and Ukrainian officials after President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected a proposal from U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Ukraine was told it would face imminent Starlink disruption if it did not reach an agreement on critical minerals, the sources said.
The issue was raised again on Thursday during meetings between Keith Kellogg, the U.S. special envoy for Ukraine, and Zelensky, one of the sources said, Reuters wrote on its website. “Ukraine is working with Starlink. They see it as their North Star,” the source said. “Losing Starlink would be a major blow.”
