The Republican governor of Texas has announced the deployment of the National Guard to the state to deal with protests against the Trump administration's immigration policies.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced a curfew in parts of downtown from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. local time (5 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Italy).
“I have declared a local emergency and imposed a nightly curfew in the second largest city in the United States to stop vandalism and looting,” Bass said at a news conference.
"When there is peace in Los Angeles, the soldiers will leave." Donald Trump said this, speaking to reporters in tow. As for the rules of engagement of the military in the city, the American president did not give precise indications: "It's very simple: if the protesters are dangerous, if they throw bricks, if they spit in the faces of the officers, if they punch people, the army will respond with great force and they will end up in jail for a long time," Trump explained.
The U.S. State Department will not reveal the identities of the illegal immigrants who will be sent to Guantanamo after the Washington Post reported that Italians, French, Germans and Britons could also be among them.
«This is certainly not a dynamic managed by the State Department.
"I will not specify any nationality of the illegal immigrants," spokeswoman Tammi Bruce said, adding that "it is not new that we transfer illegal immigrants who have committed crimes to Guantanamo before they are sent back to their country of origin: it is not the final destination."
