"We cannot turn away on Ukraine." This was stated by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in her speech at the UN General Assembly.
The Prime Minister's speech also touched on the conflicts that are bloodying the Middle East: "We support - Meloni said - the right of the Palestinian people to have their own State. But for it to see the light soon, it is necessary for the Palestinians to entrust it to a leadership inspired by dialogue, stabilization and autonomy. The Abraham Accords - she added - have demonstrated the possibility of coexisting and cooperating advantageously on the basis of mutual recognition. If this is the perspective we all need to work towards, and it is, today the imperative is to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and the immediate release of the hostages without further delay".
"It is a difficult time," Meloni continued at the Glass Palace, "in which we have been called to govern our Nations. Everything around us seems to change, everything is being questioned, and the few certainties we thought we had are no longer certain. Destiny challenges us, but ultimately it does so to test us. In the storm, we can demonstrate that we are up to the task that history has given us."
"We can demonstrate it - the Prime Minister added - to the citizens we govern, demonstrate it to our children. Demonstrate it to ourselves, perhaps above all to ourselves, because as a great Italian patriot, Carlo Pisacane, a protagonist of the Risorgimento that made Italy a united nation, said: 'I will find every reward in the depths of my conscience.' Facing problems rather than postponing them, moving forward rather than backward, preferring what is right to what is useful, this is our task, difficult but necessary. Italy, as always, is ready to do its part", she concluded.
