The United States confirms the presence of two Italians at Alligator Alcatraz , the migrant center in the Florida swamps among alligators and caimans.
Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin confirmed to the Washington Post that Fernando Artese and Gaetano Mirabella Costa are at the center after overstaying their permits in the country .
Costa, McLaughlin explained, overstayed his B2 visa by almost seven years . Artese, on the other hand, entered the United States under the visa waiver program, which allowed a three-month stay, and stayed for 10 years.
Mirabella Costa and Artese have reportedly been arrested for alleged criminal offenses. In recent days, Costa appealed to the Italian government: "We are literally caged, like a chicken coop. Get us out of this nightmare."
