There is controversy in the US over Pete Hegseth, the man chosen by President-elect Donald Trump as Secretary of Defense for his government, whose inauguration is scheduled for January.
Hegseth, a war veteran and longtime Fox News host, is reportedly involved in a police investigation into an alleged sexual assault. The incident allegedly occurred on October 8, 2017, in a hotel in the Californian city of Monterey, and the alleged victim, a woman, filed a complaint four days later.
The case has raised questions about the wisdom of Hegseth's nomination as Pentagon chief, but Trump is reportedly not going back on his decision. "President Trump is nominating extremely qualified candidates. Hegseth has vehemently denied all of the allegations. We look forward to his confirmation," said Steven Cheung, the tycoon's communications director.
