Pope Francis “slams” both US presidential candidates, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, in one fell swoop. “Both are against life, both the one who throws away migrants and the one who kills children,” was the Pontiff’s stern response to a question from a journalist during the flight from Singapore, the last stop on his visit to Asia, back to Rome.

The reporter asked Bergoglio what advice he could give to an American Catholic voter who must decide between a candidate in favor of abortion and another candidate who would instead deport 11 million migrants. And the Holy Father did not spare criticism for either of them.

Also during the return flight, Francis also answered a question about the destinations of his next trips. "China is an illusion for me, in the sense that I would like to visit China," Bergoglio said, explaining: "I am happy with the dialogues with China: the result is good, also for the appointment of bishops. We are working with good will. I have heard from the Secretariat of State about how things are going, I am happy."
