Donald Trump has confirmed that Security Advisor Mike Waltz will be the next US ambassador to the United Nations , with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio taking over as interim secretary.

Waltz is leaving his post in the wake of the Chatgate scandal : the national security adviser has been under pressure since the Atlantic Magazine editor-in-chief revealed in March that he had mistakenly added him to a Signal chat about the attacks on the Houthis, in which officials had outlined the attack plan, including the times when U.S. warplanes would take off to bomb targets in Yemen.

Meanwhile, the WSJ anticipates the expansion of the Pentagon investigation into the sharing of military plans by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on a second Signal chat. Hegseth allegedly sent attack plans in Yemen to a dozen collaborators, including his wife and his brother.
