An appeal to demonstrate against the misinformation of the former Twitter, today X , and an invitation to strike , on Friday 27 October , abstaining from the use of this social media.

This is what Tristan Mendès France, Julien Pain and Rudy Reichstadt , researchers who are experts in fake news, propose in the columns of the French newspaper Le Monde. And the choice of the date is not random: Friday 27 October marks the first anniversary of the entry of entrepreneur Elon Musk into ownership of the platform.

According to the researchers, Musk's entry would have led to an aggravation of Twitter's responsibility in giving voice and visibility to toxic content .

And this with the elimination of the certification of the most relevant accounts and the simultaneous launch of the Twitter Blue paid certification program , defined as "a sort of census system that is difficult to compatible with the sincere concern of guaranteeing equal access to freedom of expression".

The accusation is against the authentication system of profiles , rewarded in visibility by paying a sum varying between 7 and 8 dollars a month regardless of the credibility or public prominence of those who manage them.

The reasons for the strike also include the continuous cuts and layoffs applied first and foremost to the platform's moderation team, with the consequence of content inciting hatred, violence or worse that is too often conveyed. Flaws which, with the war in the Middle East and the multiplication of messages, including pro-terrorism, recently appear even more evident.
