The European Parliament has voted to lift the immunity of Democratic Party MEP Alessandra Moretti in the context of the so-called Qatargate investigation.
With 497 votes in favor, 139 against, and 15 abstentions, the Strasbourg Chamber approved the decision of the European Parliament's Legal Affairs Committee to lift the immunity of Democratic Party member Alessandra Moretti, taken on December 3.
"I am confident that Alessandra Moretti will demonstrate her integrity and transparency regarding the disputed facts. I continue to believe that even now, after the clarifications provided, all the conditions were in place to further protect the prerogatives of parliamentarians, but now, in the upcoming phase, there will be an opportunity to verify her non-involvement. In the meantime, her commitment to parliamentary work will continue," stated Nicola Zingaretti, head of the Democratic Party delegation to the European Parliament.
