It has already been defined "the coup of the century", comparable only to the arrest of Pablo Escobar, the one that led to the capture of Dario Antonio Usuga, known "Otoniel", the most wanted drug trafficker in Colombia, high leader of the Clan of the Gulf.

Over his head hung a bounty, placed by the United States, of up to $ 5 million.

The 49-year-old boss is accused in 120 different trials and has to answer for numerous crimes including multiple murders and the export to Central America, the USA and Europe of many tons of cocaine from the Uraba region in the Antioquia department.

The operation, General Jorge Vargas, director of the police forces explained at a press conference, mobilized about 500 men and 22 helicopters, one officer was killed.

Usuga has already been flown to Bogota and is under close surveillance. “There are extradition orders for this criminal and we will work with the authorities to achieve this as well,” said President Iván Duque Márquez.

According to the police, the drug trafficker was hiding in the jungle, in the Uraba region, where he was born, and did not use the telephone, relying on couriers to communicate. The capture took place in Necocli, near the border with Panama.
