"The conflict we are in with Russia has taken on a new, more dangerous dimension: Germany risks being drawn into a violent conflict with Russia," said Martin Jaeger, head of the German intelligence agency, at a public hearing of the parliamentary oversight committee.

“The attempted attack in Leipzig is just one example: no other country currently poses such a direct, broad-based, and concrete threat to Germany,” he continued.

Russian intelligence services acted "in a highly professional and ruthless manner," Jaeger warned, citing the example of the drone bomb found at the airport in the Saxon town. "The danger of attacks against targets in Germany remains real and imminent. We must oppose this," he added. "Russia is waging a shadow war against us. This undeclared war cannot be classified within traditional military or legal categories."
