The 84-year-old arrested in San Marino on April 26, at the end of an investigation coordinated by the law commissioner, Elisa Beccari and conducted jointly by the Gendarmerie and the Civil Police, is suspected of having poisoned dozens of dogs over the years.

The 84-year-old, retired Sammarinese businessman, has been questioned several times and has always maintained his innocence. This time, however, investigators have specific clues that lead to the pensioner. His car allegedly passed near the parks where the poisonings occurred and he was seen throwing away packages compatible with the packaging of poisoned bait.

The investigative activities, carried out in close collaboration between the Operational and Judicial Police Department of the Gendarmerie and the Emergency Response Section of the Civil Police, therefore led to the seizure of material.

In recent months, especially on social media, alarms about poisoned baits in San Marino parks have multiplied. According to what was gathered by the police, the baits were often packaged with cheese or sausage paste containing rat or snail poison but also nails or sharp objects to induce a devastating hemorrhage in the animal.

In 2011, a dog show was also suspended due to three poisoning deaths. According to the charges, the man could be responsible for more than 50 deaths.
