South Africa accuses Israel of being involved in "acts of genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza" before the International Court of Justice in The Hague. This was announced by the Court itself, the main judicial body of the United Nations.

In its request, South Africa states that “Israel's acts and omissions are genocidal in nature, as they are accompanied by the required specific intent to destroy the Palestinians of Gaza as part of the broader national, racial and ethnic group of Palestinians.”

Already during the last extraordinary virtual meeting of the Brics countries, called precisely to take stock of the conflict in the Strip and the situation in the Middle East, South Africa had made the same accusations against the Jewish state.

For its part, Israel rejects to the sender "with disgust" what the Foreign Ministry defines as a "defamation".
