The conditions of Salvatore Sinagra, the thirty-year-old Sicilian who has been in a coma for 18 days following a brutal beating in Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands , have improved.

"Finally some light at the end of the tunnel! Our Savior is returning among us ," wrote Vito and Andrea Sinagra, the boy's brother and father, in a story on Instagram.

" He alternates moments of lucidity with sleep, he speaks and shows signs of moving. He is not fully conscious but responds well, even though he remains in intensive care he gives us good hope ," the message continues. In the post, Sinagra's family, originally from Favignana, thanks the Favignana community for their support after the attack on Salvatore, as well as the Italian authorities for their support and the staff at the Doctor Negrín hospital in Gran Canaria where he is hospitalized. "Excellent, truly professional, very human and always available," they say.

According to doctors, the improvements are not yet sufficient to consider him out of danger , also because Sinagra could suffer permanent consequences for that brutal attack , which occurred without reason, for which a 25-year-old from Lanzarote ended up in prison , who is already known to the police and acted under the influence of cocaine.

When Salvatore opened his eyes he saw his relatives, father, brother and cousin, in front of him, and asked: "What are you doing here?", unaware of what had happened and of those 18 days spent in a coma .
