Around 700 Italians are stranded on the island of Flores , Indonesia, following the violent earthquake that struck the area in the last few hours.

The Farnesina, through the Italian Embassy in Jakarta and the Crisis Unit, continues to provide information to Italians present in the areas affected by the earthquake.

Specifically, there are over 2,000 Italian citizens registered with AIRE in the country, and approximately 6,000 non-resident Italians registered on "Dove siamo nel mondo." On the island of Flores, approximately 700 non-resident Italians are registered on "Dove siamo nel mondo."

The main airports in the area are currently operational, but the high demand for flights from international tourists and the local population is resulting in limited availability of seats on outbound flights.

The Farnesina urges Italians present in the area to stay in touch with the Embassy and register their presence on the Crisis Unit's systems. The 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck the island on Saturday morning . At least 341 aftershocks were recorded in the hours that followed. Some areas still lack electricity and telephone service, while at least one road used to reach the affected areas remains impassable.
