A face-to-face meeting to renew the shared commitment "to cultivate good bilateral relations between the Holy See and the United States of America," which also provided an opportunity for "an exchange of views on the regional and international situation, with particular attention to countries marked by war, political tensions, and difficult humanitarian situations, as well as on the need to work tirelessly for peace."
This is what the Holy See reports on the meeting between Pope Leo XIV and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio , visiting Rome.
Rubio's trip comes after US President Donald Trump's attacks on the Pope.
According to Vatican sources, during the 45-minute talks in the Vatican, the Middle East, conflicts in Africa, and the "need to support the Cuban people in this difficult time" were also discussed.
