Rodrigo Granda, one of the leaders of the former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Farc), was arrested in Mexico by police and Interpol. The capture was carried out at the request of the Colombian government.

As federal government officials confirm, the operation took place in Mexico City following a so-called "red code" released by Interpol.

Granda, who was also part of the Colombian Communist Party, was appointed in 1997 as a member of the FARC Central Staff and the International Guerrilla Commission in Costa Rica.

Known to all as the "Foreign Minister" of the former Armed Forces, he had worked for the revival of the former Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt.

On Twitter, Carlos Lozada - former guerrilla commander and now parliamentarian for the Comunes party commented on the arrest talking about a "flagrant violation" of the peace accords signed in 2016 with the Bogota government that put an end to 50 years of Colombian internal conflict .
