"Tortured every day for the past two years."

Unimaginable abuses were perpetrated against an underage girl in Beed, an Indian town in Maharasthra. The young woman, now 16, was forced into prostitution every day for two years and therefore raped by hundreds of men.

The victim lived in the bus station after escaping an abusive married husband at 13 and an equally abusive father. This is where the tormentors forced her into a hellish life.

At least eight arrested, for the moment. According to Abhay Vitthalrao Vanave, president of India's Child Welfare Committee (CWC), the young woman had in the past turned to the police accusing the exploiters. But nobody had done anything. Two policemen are now also being investigated for ignoring this grave request for help.

Women's rights activist Yogita Bhayana called the case "the most tragic rape episode in our history. This girl has been tortured every day for the past two years. We want rigorous action against all perpetrators."
