Rodrigo Duterte, the controversial president of the Philippines, has announced that he will not reappear in the 2022 elections, not even to serve as vice president or to fill other institutional positions. In fact, Duterte explained that he intends to permanently withdraw from politics.

Elected in 2016 with a broad consensus, the leader of Manila in recent years has often and willingly risen to the forefront of the news (and controversies) for his strong statements and for the iron fist adopted to address the problems of the country, to start with drugs.

Among his shocking phrases: "I would like to shoot those who violate the Covid quarantine" and "I will exterminate drug addicts like Hitler did with the Jews" ( VIDEO ).

According to human rights NGOs, thousands of people have been killed by the police during his mandate.

Duterte takes a step back, but has already identified who will succeed him: his daughter Sara, 43, mayor of the city of Davao.

"The overriding sentiment among Filipinos is that I am not the right person and that being elected vice president would be a violation of the constitution and a circumvention of the law and the spirit of the constitution. So, I announce my withdrawal from politics," said Duterte. during a meeting organized to launch the daughter's candidacy.
