A bipartisan coalition of states and other parties and entities led by the New York Attorney General's Office has reached a $7.4 billion "settlement in principle" with members of the Sackler family and their company Purdue Pharma for their instrumental role in creating the so-called opioid crisis, U.S. Attorney Letitia James announced.
OxyContin , the opioid produced and marketed by the Sackler family company, was put under scrutiny, and is considered responsible for the overdose deaths of hundreds of thousands of people in the United States . A drama that was also told in the Netflix series “Painkiller,” starring actor Matthew Broderick.
