The British government is evaluating with its scientific advisors the possibility of introducing new restrictions in light of the latest data on Covid, which could show a further advance of the Omicron variant.

This is what we read on the BBC website, according to which after two days without numbers on the coronavirus due to the Christmas break, a new record of infections is feared.

The latest updates date back to December 24, when the data spoke of 122,186 new positives, over 2,000 more than the previous survey and with a number of infections increased by 48% in 7 days and compared to the previous week. Not only that: according to the latest projections of the National Statistics Office, one in 10 people in London would have been infected with Covid-19, in particular with the new Omicron variant.

Downing Street said no decisions had yet been made on introducing further measures to control the Omicron variant in England, but Premier Boris Johnson had previously said he would not hesitate to take action after Christmas if necessary.

It is now possible that London is also following the example of other UK nations that have tightened anti-Covid restrictions since yesterday, particularly in relation to pubs and restaurants.
