American judge and social media star Frank Caprio has died at the age of 88. He had pancreatic cancer, his family announced on his Instagram account.
Caprio, over the course of a 40-year career in Rhode Island, first in court and then on the TV show “Caught in Providence,” became known for his humor and sensitivity, especially in cases involving children, earning him the nickname “the world’s kindest judge” on social media.
His unmistakable courtroom style has been immortalized in viral clips, ranging from inviting children to sit with him behind the bench during trials to announcing the sentencing to a plush judge with his likeness. A TikTok video showing his morning routine has garnered over 5 million views, while on Instagram he has 3.4 million followers.
His son David thanked fans for their love and support and urged people to "spread some kindness" in memory of his father.
