Protests are mounting in Israel as citizens clamor for the government to reach a deal to release Hamas hostages in Gaza. Dozens of protesters blocked Ibn Gvirol Street in Tel Aviv, coinciding with a general strike across the country, amid widespread anger over the government's handling of the war. But they also gathered at the Shilat intersection near Modi'in and blocked a road in the northern city of Rosh Pina, The Times of Israel reports.
The Histadrut - one of the country's most powerful unions - has announced a one-day strike , which began this morning at 6:00 a.m. local time. Government and municipal offices will be closed, as will schools and many private businesses. Israel's international airport, Ben Gurion, will also remain closed for an unspecified period.
According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani, "it is time for those who claim to be advocates of human rights and that human lives matter to them to take action to stop Israel, before it is too late. Some eight decades after the Nuremberg Tribunal, the world is once again witnessing the emergence of another Hitler (referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu), a criminal who continues the brutal genocide and killing of innocent Palestinian women and children amid the indifference of the international community."
