Elon Musk has suspended the pro-Trump millionaire lottery. The Tesla boss, after the warning from the US Department of Justice, has temporarily blocked the race for the giant million-dollar check aimed at voters in swing states who have not yet registered.
The billionaire promised the loot to random people who sign a petition promoted by his super PAC and aimed at supporting Donald Trump. An operation that, according to the warning of the department, risks violating the federal law that prohibits paying someone to vote or register.
So far, Tesla's boss has gotten away with it by arguing that signing the petition doesn't require any specific party affiliation and therefore, technically, the million dollars aren't donated to vote for the tycoon. But, evidently, at least for now, the government's warning has put Musk on alert.
