Controversy in the United States over the email sent by Elon Musk, in his new role as head of the Doge, Department for Government Efficiency, in which he asks federal employees to specify within 48 hours the work done in the past weeks. "In line with Donald Trump's instructions - Musk had thundered in the past on X - all federal employees will receive an email in which they will be asked what they have done in the past weeks. Failure to respond will be considered as resignation". An announcement that came after President Trump had invited the billionaire to be more aggressive in terms of cutting costs.
And shortly thereafter, federal employees — including some judges and federal corrections officials — received a three-line email with these instructions: “Respond with 5 bullet points about what you accomplished in the past week.” The deadline to respond is Monday at 11:59 p.m., although the email does not threaten forced resignation for those who do not comply.
The FBI's response was immediate on this point, with the new director Kash Patel who, NBC reveals, sent a message to all employees to "suspend any response" to the email and clarified that the FBI will examine the work of its employees in accordance with its own procedures.
State Department workers were also asked not to respond.
Yesterday, union leader Everett Kelley, president of the American Federation of Government Employees, condemned Musk and the Trump administration, vowing to challenge any “wrongful terminations.”
